I love reading biographies; it keeps me motivated. Especially people who were down in the dumps one day and high on the mountain the next. We all want that prison to palace experience but there’s much that goes on in-between. Ask every person who made it to the top and they will say it took hard work, failure, a die-hard attitude and many character building moments.

Sometimes, we may look at those who made it and think ‘if only I could do that or this I’d be happy’ or ‘I don’t think I’d ever be able to do that’.

It all starts with a dream. We all have talents and are passionate about at least one thing but may not even realise it.

Sometimes others see it before we do. Or we may see it but don’t know where to start because it just seems too big. And so we leave it…and year after year we think about it for a moment, then park it. We continue with that day job we don’t like so much but always have that niggling feeling that there’s got to be more.

I’ve been there…still am there in some ways but that’s what this community is about – helping one another to get to where we would like to be.

So, what’s in your hand?

I asked myself this very question and had a light bulb moment the other day. I share 3 examples below to motivate and encourage you that anything is achievable. I’m an ordinary person, a novice with a few ideas!

Without realizing it, for years, I have been encouraging others when they have an interview or are looking for a career change. It may seem crazy but am super excited when people succeed in their career or achieve a goal like buying a house. Here’s one of many examples. I had a colleague that I encouraged to apply for a higher paying job – he did. We worked together for weeks on the application, interview etc. He got the job and started in January 2019. Eight months later, another opening came up at his workplace for another higher paying job. Again we spoke about it, he was not sure whether he should apply so soon after getting the previous one. I encouraged him to do it. Again I coached him on interview questions etc. And again he got the job! Within 8 months not only did his bank balance increase but so did his confidence level.

I always wanted to write a Children’s series and finally published the first in 2015. Did I know how to write one or publish? NO. I just read up on how to do it and did it. Since then I’ve written 3 more and have around 10 other titles (in my head!). It’s simply a story and colouring book to help children in their first year at school as some may find it daunting. I literally cried in my first year and thought if I could just help one child it would be worth it. Every book also teaches a life lesson.

Third example. This website. It’s been in my heart for years just to encourage parents not only with their children but also in their own lives. I guess my conviction is that life for a parent should not stop just because we have children. To me, having children is one part – we all have dreams but may not be able to pursue it because our children need us in the early years. If I could help one parent dust off the cobwebs on the dreams they have tucked somewhere in their heart and help them achieve it, it will be worth it. (And as an aside, I did not know the first thing about building a website. Again, all I did was read up on it and here it is online warts and all!).

And as a bonus…Blogging…what do I know about it? Yes, you guessed it! Nada, zilch, nothing. I’m sure you can see the pattern here!

Now your turn. What do you do well or are passionate about that you would like to start? Or you've started but are stuck?Or are you looking for a career change or have been out of the workforce or never had a secular job but want to start? Maybe you would like to write a book (or two) and need some guidance.

If this sounds like you, do get in touch. I have prepared a step by step guide to get you closer to your goal/s. And to get you motivated, here’s some of the questions I asked myself – fill it in and return. Here's to making your dream a reality.
