It's important to start teaching your children positive habits and life skills from a young age.
Your child may not be quite ready to mow the lawn or take the trash out but it's important for children to learn that everyone helps around the house. No matter the age.
This week's Blog is all about sharing the life skills you have been teaching your children. It will definitely help us Rookie Parents!
Sometimes it's hard to find the time in our busy schedules, but the investment in our children will definitely benefit society. What they learn today is what they will carry with them to school, work and their own homes. Be encouraged! You may not see the harvest from the seeds you are sowing now. But one day, every seed you sow will bear fruits that will last.

Some of the life skills we have taught our son
Taking the trash out. It's started with taking the little bin from the room to the kitchen.
Washing the dishes. He helps with washing the plastic containers with me.
Planting eg. beans. He's had the opportunity to see how some veges grow as it's planted in our back yard. He has helped with harvesting tomatoes, carrots, corn, potatoes, yams.
When it's macadamia season, he helps with picking up the nuts that have fallen on the ground in the backyard.
Picking up eggs from the hens at his uncle's home. This way he learns that eggs don't come from the supermarket. He has also been to local farms fruit picking and has milked a cow.
Helping with the laundry for example holding the basket with me, putting the clothes into the machine, the detergent in and handing me pegs when I'm putting the clothes out to dry. He also puts his dirty laundry immediately after taking it off into the basket and his shoes on the shoe rack.
Learning how to peel a fruit like a mandarin. Simple! But it's such a thrill to watch him excitedly do it himself.
Making his bed in the morning.
Taking his empty plate and cup to the sink after eating.
Swimming. He started lessons at 8 months and loves it.
Reading. We took this further and wrote a book together last year when he was 3. He amazed me with his imagination, even creating a character. Bailey's first day at Mala's school
Learning bible verses. We memorise a scripture a week. He now loves it and reminds me of some of the verses!
Baking. I thought to try this early so he learns how to measure ingredients. We've made simple cookies, brownies.
My child's no saint, neither are we perfect parents. Just rookies learning as we go along and making the most of each day.
Your turn, what's the life skills you have been teaching? Please share the life skills and positive habits you have been teaching your children. Especially if your children are older. It definitely will encourage us rookies who have young children.
Please like and share this post....I'm sure there's at least one person in your circle who may be encouraged :)
Your fellow Rookie Parent,

I am an Accountant, Author and Blogger. Home is Australia with my husband and 3 year old son.
I believe that in sharing we grow. And that's how this website and blog was born focusing on children and parents. It sure does take a village to raise a family and build a home.
It's so easy to forget 'you' on this journey. This website's here to remind you not to!
Fantastic piece. Learnt some vital lessons and will implement on my 3 year old.
