I am a law student in my second year at university. Before COVID-19, life was quite engaging with piles of books to read. I stayed on campus so it was easy to convey myself to class and the library.

Due to the compulsory break, I'm now at home. I miss having access to my friends the most during this isolation.

Personally, I love human relationships and interactions, so having to be around the same space and seeing the same faces (though I love them dearly!) every day is quite challenging for me. Plus having an online relationship with my friends isn't really a catch for me either. So I really miss seeing my friends and having conversations with them.

I try to be very deliberate about my relationships by calling and checking up to be sure everyone's fine and in this way help keep our relationship healthy.

Another challenge is with my studies as there is no interaction with our lecturers and tutors. There are no online classes or lessons. To keep myself motivated, I’m deliberate in creating time out daily for my uni work even if I'm not in the mood for it. Outside of cooking and taking care of my siblings, I spend a minimum of two hours a day studying. Most often than not, I eventually end up enjoying the reading, then I take break at intervals just so I don't get bored or distracted. Also, knowing that once all this is over, there'll be a lot of rushing with my studies has been a great motivator!

This time has given me an opportunity to learn new things.

I have started to spend more time on Duolingo language app to learn French, taking some online classes on emotional intelligence, learning how to deal with fear and anxiety and researching on how to take care of my natural hair.

I love reading and I’m currently enjoying Scarlet Thread by Francine Rivers.

I've also taken out time to evaluate my mental health and spend more time focusing on my spiritual growth as a Christian.

As a young person when the COVID-19 pandemic started, I was horrified and afraid but I tried to channel that energy to my religious life. I’ve done this through prayer and studying the bible. By focusing on God’s word rather than my fears, I have been doing just fine. I also listen to soul lifting songs with less focus on the rising death tolls or many videos circulating about the pandemic.

In times like these, I would recommend everyone to keep their body and mind together, alive with hope for the best. There's a lot that can be done, pick up a new skill, read a book, cook that dish you've always wanted to try. Just be positive and stay safe!

Please like and share. I'm sure there's at least one person who may be encouraged :)

I'm 18 years old studying law at the University of Lagos.

I love adventures, sight seeing, reading, writing and cooking. I hate lies and being late!

I would love to be a judge and look forward to a world without injustice.
