Body after birth

Wow!  I would love to say I was super charged after birth. With cs, the first few weeks was tough.  Everyone's different but this was my experience. After around 4-6hrs after birth, you start to feel your feet again but you can hardly move. It feels like your body's been on a steep roller coaster and you're living on the adrenaline of the thrill.  In this case the thrill of a baby.

It's important for the physical touch so as soon as practical you will be given the baby so he can feed.  It takes a little while to get this right so don't be hard on yourself if it doesn't work straight away.  Reach out to a lactation consultation if you have concerns.

After two days, I left the hospital.  My tummy felt like wobbly jelly! Dress comfortably but I'd suggest instead of wearing pj's to wear track suits.  It just helped me psychologically and may help you too.

Our bodies are amazing at recovery but do take care in the first 6 weeks.  Few key points:

  • Don't lift anything heavy

  • Watch what you eat especially if you are breastfeeding

  • Don't drive unless you get the all clear from your doctor (check with your insurance, you may not be covered in the first 6 weeks)

  • Don't participate in rigorous exercise or do core muscle exercises without the all clear from your doctor

  • Don't take stairs repeatedly
